Since 1978, the Holiday Sunshine Fund has distributed more than $1.45 million to non-profit organizations and agencies in the Greenville, SC market. The Holiday Sunshine Fund was formed by The Greenville News and is operated by a board of volunteer Greenville News employees. Fundraising efforts launch on Thanksgiving Day each year and conclude on December 31. Funds are typically distributed shortly after being received during December and January.

In 2006, local NBC affiliate WYFF joined The Greenville News in efforts to promote and support growth of the Fund. Each year a telephone fund-raising drive is held during an evening news broadcast on WYFF.

In 2014, the Holiday Sunshine Fund expanded to include the Asheville Citizen-Times in Asheville, NC. Funds that are collected from the Greenville and Asheville communities are distributed back to the respective communities.

Mission Statement:

The Holiday Sunshine Fund is dedicated to raising funds for local organizations and agencies that focus on enhancing quality of life for and bringing joy to those in need during the holiday season and throughout the year.

100% of all donations are distributed to designated non-profit beneficiaries, as there are no administrative costs.

The Holiday Sunshine Fund is a registered 501 (c)(3) organization.
